Zero Waste Computing
Zero Waste Computing introduces extreme savings in the computing ecosystem with 3 steps:
Step 1 - Reduce
During acquisition and operation ensures extreme Reduction in resource consumption.
Refuse any excess purchases and wasteful practices.
Offer idle resources or excess capacity to others.
Step 2 - Reuse
At the retirement of resources, ensures extreme Reuse through repurposing and repairing.
Do NOT recycle if a resource can be reused.
Step 3 - Recycle
When a resource cannot be Reused, extract useful components from the largest to the smallest.
For example:
- Reuse complete hard disks BEFORE of melting them to extract metal.
- Use organic waste in compost BEFORE burning them as fuel
