Phone Account

Phone Account adds unified chat, email, phone, web services to your phone number.

  1. Cross Device
    Unlike proprietary services (e.g. Apple Messages), you can use your Phone Account services on MANY difference devices (e.g. Android, iOS, macOS, Windows etc.).

  2. Open Security
    Phone Account is based on fully opened software that can be audited and reproduced by anyone. It is designed as a minimal-feature version of the Owner Account to ensure maximum reliability in situations when you have problems with your Owner Account.

  3. Standard Function
    Phone Account functions similar to a traditional Cloud Compute accounts, to enjoy the many extra Team Compute protections and features, you need to use the Owner Account.

1. Phone Account Address

The Phone Account used in this Quick Start Program has a 88.io domain and is based on your phone number. For example, if phone number is 61499331111:

  • Phone account's chat, email and phone addresses are all the same:
    e.g. 61499331111@88.io

  • Phone account's web address has the @ is replaced by a .
    e.g. 61499331111.88.io

2. Phone Account Services

Your Alias Console will have the initial password required to access phone account services using Web Browsers or Mobile Apps:

  1. Web Browsers can be used instantly from any device without software installation (e.g. laptops), just CLICK on the Servers listed above and you are there, but they have less features and are less stable than Mobile Apps.

  2. Mobile Apps require installation of individual software on your device but have much more features and can access BOTH global and owner accounts together - more initial work but better in the long term.

  3. For the Chat service, non-Android devices can use the following Mobile Apps:

    • iOS and macOS - use Monal
    • Windows and Linux - use Gajim

Please change the initial password and store the new password in a secure storage (if you do not have a preferred password storage, you can use Team Compute's password storages).

3. Phone Account Exclusivity

This Phone Account is EXCLUSIVELY for communications within the 88.io ecosystem, providing you with basic chat, email, phone and web service based on your phone number.

You use your phone account to call and email out to non 88.io entities, but for them to call and email to you those non 88.io entities will receive an automatic reply telling them to join the free quick start program first.

This is not a general purpose account, its main purpose is for backup and recovery of your other accounts, although it can be used for low volume communications with other 88.io entities also.

4. Phone Account Limits

For security reasons sharing of resources between services is not allowed. Each service has its own independent resource limits.

5. Phone Account Expiry

Since your phone number may be taken over by others in the future:

  1. you need to actively use that phone number at least once every month.
  2. you need to backup data in that account at least once every month.

If a phone number has been inactive for more than 90 days, the phone account will be removed.
