ResMed

ResMed is a major provider of sleep related medical equipment. In order to avoid the cost and privacy problems with locking up their data on RedMed's Cloud Platform, patients have been exporting their sleep data from RedMed equipment into open sourced sleep analysis software like OSCAR.

However, a new model AirMini no longer support exporting of patient data, so third party analysis software can NO longer be used by the patients. ResMed encourage patients to give away private data to RedMed cloud freely, but gives NO way for patients to access those submitted data to themselves!

What's worse, they even prevent patients from capturing their own data on their own mobile phone by making screenshots of the ResMed mobile app.

Devices Phoning Home

Instead of making individual post for each home device that is unnecessarily phoning home , we will just list some samples here.

Devices phone homing unnecessarily to their manufacturers WITHOUT asking for explicit permission is not only a dangerous practice because uncontrolled connection back to the device manufacture at any time for whatever purpose can not just leak personal data on their devices but hackers can turn their devices in an attack platform to exploit ALL other devices on the local network.

Popular examples:

  • Brother Printers
  • Hikivision Cameras

When making your next purchase thinking about the security on your home network, it is difficult to build your own printer to replace the Brother but you can now have options of your building your own cameras to replace the Hikvision:

Samsung

Samsung blocks users from using their Samsung S21 Ultras because they ignored Samsung's demand to agree to Samsung's new account policies.

After a short while, without consent and without warning, Samsung suddenly locks customers out of their phones if they do NOT agree with their new account policies!

So they LOSE EVERYTHING - all the data on their phones plus the use of the phones that they paid for - if they do NOT agree with's Samsung RETROSPECTIVELY changing account policies.

How legal is that ?

Apple

Even if you do NOT want to use any paid apps from the Apple App Store (that is you do NOT provide details in the "Payment Method" section), you still have to fill in the "Phone" and "Billing Address" section.

Wrong answers with confidence.

Home Assistant Supervised is part of the Private Cyberspace core software set. Unfortunately it is designed to run ONLY on Debian not Ubuntu - that fact is clear in official documentation and other sources.

ChatGPT replied to the question on how to run Home Assistant Supervised on Ubuntu with confidence (see below dated 2023-03-23) even gave out exact steps that do NOT work.

Google

Privacy Features are supposed to PROTECT your privacy, that's why they are called features.

But Google is going the OPPOSITE:

Google asks your permission to SELL YOUR DATA by pretending that it is a privacy feature.

google1

And if you click "Got it" ALL the other ad privacy features got turn on - giving permission to Google to sell you data - opposite of what they imply in text on that page.
