Linphone

Linphone is a free, open-source and cross-platform application for making audio and video calls, and sending text messages over the internet.

Requirement:

Installing the Linphone App on Android

  1. Open the Play Store on your phone and search for Linphone in the search bar.
  2. Tap Install and wait for the installation to complete.
  3. Once installed, tap Open from the Play Store or locate the app on your home screen.
  4. Launch the application to begin the setup process.
  5. On the first launch, Linphone will request permissions to access the notifications, photo library, contacts, microphone and camera (for video calls).
  6. Grant these permissions to fully enjoy all the app’s features.

Setup

Connect using a Third-Party SIP Account

  • Open the Linphone application.
  • On the home screen, select Third-Party SIP Account.

1. SIP account details

Username
You are normally given TWO accounts, one based on your joining Phone Number and one based on your Citizen Number (which starts with country code 89..):

a. Phone Number used during registration for the Area Alias, e.g., 61434882000
b. Citizen Number located at Area Teams→ Teams → Team A → Application, e.g., 89561000

Password
Located at Area Teams → Teams → Team A → Application, e.g: vvuyw5v0yrag42bomvcrm3

Domain
88.io or aunsw.88.io depending on the Username used.

Display Name
The name displayed to the other party, e.g: 61434882932

Transport
TLS

2. Media Encryption

Go to Settings → Advance settings → Calls → Media encryption → SRTP

3. Account settings

Click on the 6 or 8 button (it could be a different digit) on the top left hand corner

Click on the 3-dot -> Manage the profile - Add a picture (this is optional)

Scroll down to Account settingsTurn off:

  • Format phone numbers using international prefix
  • Replace +by 00 when formatting phone number

Multiple Accounts

Multiple accounts can be set up and managed within the Linphone app.

In the example below, two accounts have been added, each using a different domain name, 89561306@aunsw.88.io and 61434882932@88.io

Call Forward on Busy

Requirement: Conversations app

Incoming calls to the mobile phone number can be answered using the following methods:

  1. Linphone (ensure the username used is 89xxxx@aunsw.88.io)
    Requirement: Conversations app
  2. Browser Phone
    Requirement: Browser Phone app
  3. Meeting (conference)
    Requirement: Web based Conference app
  4. Voicemail
    Requirement: Mailbox

There are three ways to set up Call Forward on Busy:

  1. Use the Universal Dialer Code (the most reliable way), i.e: **67*NUMBER#, e.g: **67*+61499331111# where the forwarded number is +61499331111. To cancel the Call Forward, dial ##67#.
  2. If the Universal Dialer Code is not possible, go to the carrier's portal and enable the Call Forward on Busy.
  3. If Call Forward on Busy on the carrier's portal is not available, enable it from the device phone app.

Note:

  • Ensure the Missed Call Service is disabled from the carrier.
  • With certain carriers, the voicemail must be removed.
  • On certain Android versions, ensure Take a message is disabled

If Call Forward on Busy is enabled and configured to forward calls to +61499331111, any incoming call that is rejected or declined will be forwarded to that number. The recipient of the forwarded call will then have the available options to answer it.

When there is an an incoming call, click on the Open link button or the link shown from the Conversations app notification.

When the open_link_button button or the link is clicked, the following pop-up window is displayed.

Call Forward - Browser Phone

When the browser_button button is selected, the call is routed to the Browser Phone.

When the answer_call button is selected, the call is answered.

Note: The Browser Phone will continue to function to receive incoming calls even when the Chrome browser is closed. However, if the browser cache, history, or other data have been cleared, you will need to re-enter your Browser Phone details.

Call Forward - Linphone

Selecting the linphone_button button routes the call to the Linphone app, triggering an incoming call notification.

When the linphone_answer button is selected, the call is answered.

Call Forward - Meeting

When the meeting_button button is selected, the active call is transferred to the Web based Conference app.

Once the call has been answered, ensure that the microphone is unmuted, as it is muted by default.

Call Forward - Voicemail

When the voicemail_button is selected, the caller will prompted to leave a voice message.

All voice messages left are available from https://mail.aunsw.88.io, Inbox -> Team folder.

The voicemail attachment can be downloaded by selecting the download_button button or played by selecting the play_vm button.
